Bridging Bremerton: Naval History Walk
July 3, 2021 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
BRIDGING BREMERTON 2021!
Bridging Bremerton: Naval History Walk 7/3 2-4pm
LOCATION START: Kitsap 9/11 Memorial, Evergreen-Rotary Park
The walk begins at the 9/11 memorial at Evergreen-Rotary Park, where we’ll begin to work our way back through history, and how Bremerton’s Navy and shipyard helped propel the country to victory in World War I, World War II and the Cold War. We’ll make stops at Bremerton Canvas, Memorial Plaza and the Puget Sound Navy Museum before concluding at the USS Turner Joy Museum Ship on the Bremerton waterfront.
All walkers will have free access to tour the Turner Joy and all kids on the tour will receive a sailor duck keepsake to take home.
For more information email Josh Farley at josh.farley@kitsapsun.com.
Bridging Bremerton: Meet me in Manette 7/10 2pm
We’ll explore the history of Manette and the bridge that connected it to Bremerton, then head on our traditional bridge-loop walk. Artist Jonathan “Fro” Perry and a team of artists will be painting the Manette free-wall and we’ll get a taste of their work.
Oh, and we’ve saved a party in Manette for the end, with a tour of the new Living Room Realty space and discounts from many Manette businesses and restaurants.
Are you an experienced walker or hiker willing to adventure off the beaten path in search of Bremerton’s secrets? Then this walk is for you. We’ll hit parklands, forests and other nooks and crannies along the bridge route in a walk that is best for only the walkers of the heartiest endurance. It will be a three-plus hour challenge that will likely cover about eight miles.
NOTE: This is for only the most experienced of hikers. Please wear comfortable, durable shoes and be ready to go on some steep trails.
Party in the Park 7/24
To cap this year’s Bridging Bremerton, we’ve saved the party for the end. After a 2.8 mile walk that focuses on Evergreen Park’s past, present and future, Seaside Church and the newly opened Evergreen Pizzeria will throw open their doors for food and games, including a miniature golf course and more.
