About HighKey Kids™ Found Sound Adventure Camp:

Join Great Bend Teaching Artist Andy Jarema for an in-person ‘found sound’ digital audio adventure! Campers will meet at Faith Lutheran Church and depart to different acoustic environments in Mason County in order to capture an array of curated audio samples for use in music, videos, podcasts and more. They’ll return having sampled everything from bird song in the Salmon Center estuary to the machinery and booming acoustic of the Sierra Pacific mill in downtown Shelton, all while examining and discussing the role that music and sound play in television, movies, podcasts, news shows and more.

Digital Audio Production Lab Afternoon Session
$100
This optional add-on session (1–4pm) will run as a digital audio production lab for mentored individual work alongside additional listening activities, tutorials on specific digital audio production skills and techniques, and group collaboration. Attendees will practice software basics and best practices of digital audio production through whole-class activities, collaborative projects, and individual creative pursuits using their own devices.
Topics may include:
- Using a beat step sequencer
- Layering and splicing samples/loops
- Adjusting settings on software instrument
- Adding vocal effects/processing
- Constructing sound design for a podcast
No experience with a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is required, although any knowledge students bring to the course can be built upon. Participation requires parental support during and between class sessions, a tablet or laptop, and a reliable internet connection.
Schedule:
Campers will meet at Faith Lutheran Church at 8:45am for a daily 9 am departure and will return by 1pm.
The optional afternoon Digital Audio Production Lab will be held from 1–4pm.
Class requirements:
Campers should bring a snack and water bottle, and a portable recording device (in most cases, their phone) and wear shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather and hiking.
